AIR OUTRAGE

PASSENGER PLANE ATTACKED BY JAPANESE PETROL TANK & WINGS PIERCED. GOOD LANDING MADE. (Recd This Day, 10.15 a.m.) HONG KONG, September 5. Japanese planes attacked and forced down a Sino-German company’s plane proceeding to Yunnan from Hong Kong. The plane was clearly marked with the Sino-German colours and contained seven passengers, including the manager of the air line, .Mr Holtz. It encountered three Japanese fighters, which dived to the attack. The pilot opened the throttle and superior speed enabled him to outdistance his pursuers, who machine-gunned the plane, piercing the petrol tank and the wings. When the machine was skilfully brought down at Liuchow, ten bullet holes were found in the wings.
