CENTRAL SCHOOL
IMPORTANT REMODELLING PROPOSALS. OPEN-AIR CLASS ROOMS \ FOR INFANTS. Plans for the remodelling of Central School at a cost of about £3OOO have been approved by the Wellington Education Board, and it is hoped to have the work carried, out during the Christmas vacation. It is intended to remodel the school completely and to bring it into line with modern requirements. The windows will be lowered, cross ventilation provided and a central heating system installed, while the infant class rooms on the eastern side of the building will be converted into open-air rooms after the style of the latest school buildings to be erected by the Department. It is of interest to recall that tenders were actually being called for the remodelling of the Central School in August, 1914, during Mr W. H. Jackson’s period as headmaster, when the war broke out and the project was cancelled. The main building is over sixty years old and the modernising of the school is long overdue. The plans will come before a meeting of the Central School Committee on Thursday.
