OBITUARY
MRS EMMA JANE GASKIN. Another old and respected resident of the Wairarapa passed away last night, at the residence of her eldest son, Mr Les. Gaskin, of Cambridge Terrace, Masterton, in the person of Mrs Emma Jane Gaskin. Born at Taita, Hutt, on August 10, 1860, she was christened by Bishop Selwyn, in the old Taita church. She was the eldest daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Edward Richard Harris, of Martinborough. Mr E. R. Harris and his brother, Mr Charles Harris, were for many years the joint owners of Hautotara Station, now subdivided and owned by the Hon A. D. McLeod and his brothers. Up to the time of leaving Martinborough about 4 years ago, Mrs Gaskin held the distinction of being the oldest Martinborough resident as far as period of residence was concerned, though not in actual years of age. She was married to. Mr Matthew Gaskin, a well-known and highly respected contractor of Martinborough, on December 13, 1882. Mr Gaskin predeceased her on November 24, 1937. She was also predeceased by three sisters, Mesdames Thomas Rayner, of Masterton, George Humphries of Wellington, and John Ross of Martinborough. Two sons are left to mourn their loss. Mr Les Gaskin of Cambridge Terrace, Masterton, and Mr George Gaskin of Mangatainoka. There are twelve grandchildren. The funeral will leave the residence of Mr Gaskin, Cambridge Terrace, tomorrow at 2 p.m., for the Masterton Cemetery. MR M. C. MARSHALL The death occurred at the Masterton Public Hospital, this morning of Mr Matthew C. Marshall, aged 69. Born in Balclutha, the late Mr Marshall came to the Wairarapa at the age of 18 years, and was a.. well-known figure in the farming community having farmed in the Martinborough and Gladstone Districts for a number of years. He is survived by his wife and four sons (Messrs Frank D. .Marshall of Sydney, M. J. Marshall of Melbourne, Peter and J. A. Marshall of Masterton), one "'brother (Mr Frank Marshall of Martinborough) and two, sister (Mrs J. Wylie, of Stratford, and Mrs Thos Allan of- Opoho, Dunedin). I The interment will take place on Thursday.
