South African War Veterans.
A decision to secede from the New Zealand South African War Veterans’ Association, and to form a North Island association, with headquarters at Wellington, was reached at the annual meeting of the Wellington South African War Veterans’ Association. Delegates to the recent conference at Christchurch reported on the discussions there, and the decision, by a majority of two votes, to move the headquarters to Christchurch. The Wanganui, New Plymouth, and Levin delegates had withdrawn from the .conference, along with the Wellington delegates. Members contended that the moving of the headquarters was a vote of no confidence in the executive. It was unanimously resolved to endorse the action of the delegates in withdrawing from the Christchurch meeting, and to take steps, at the expiry of three months, to form a North Island association. It was also decided to take the necessary steps to protect those associations which had fallen into line with Wellington.
