LONDON QUOTATIONS BUTTER AND CHEESE MARKETS FIRM The London butter market was firm throughout the week and prices were higher toward the close, says the cabled report supplied by the Primary Products Marketing Department to the Dairy Board. New Zealand salted butter was quoted on Friday at 122 s to 123 s a cwt., a rise of Is ’to 2s on the week, and 6s and 7s above the price of a year ago. Friday’s closing quotations, with those of the previous week in parentheses, were as follows: — New Zealand, salted, 122 s to 123 s (121 s a year ago, 116 s); unsalted, 123 s to 124 s (121 s to 1225; a year ago, 117 s to 118 s). Australian, salted, 118 s to 119 s, ex 120 (116 s to 117 s); unsalted. 119 s to 120 s (117 s to 118 s). Danish, 114 s to 115 s f.0.b., 135 s spot (115 s 136 s to 1375). Dutch, unsalted, Ills to 112 s, ex 113 s (109 s to 110 s). Lithuanian, salted, 114 s; unsalted, Ills, 113 s to 114 s (112 s Deliveries of New Zealand butter last week were 1656 tons. The quantity in store, including 880 tons ex Akaroa and Trojan Star-, was 4351 tons, as compared with 7773 tons a year ago. Deliveries of Australian butter were 1095 tons, th’e quantity remaining in store being 4106 tons, as against 3518 tonsl a year ago. The Imperial Economic Committee’s estimate of the stocks of all butters in store is 1,299,270 boxes, as against 931,402 boxes a year ago. The cheese market was firm last week. Friday’s closing prices, with those of the previous week in parentheses, were/as follows: — New Zealand, white and coloured, 73s (72s 6d to 735; a year ago, white 69s 6d to 70s, coloured, 70s 6d to 71s). Australian, white, 68s 6d to 70s 6d 68s to 70s); coloured, 68s 6d to 70s (68s to 70s). Canadian, white and coloured, 71s to 72s (78s to 80s); c.i.f., 69s (69s 6d); old season’s white and coloured, 78s to 80s. English, finest farmers’, 86s to 88s (86s to 88s); factory cheese, 67s to 68s (665). Deliveries of New Zealand cheese last week were 14,736 crates. The quantity in store, including 1810 crates ex Raranga, was 51,945 crates, as against 45,700 crates a year ago. Canadian cheese in store was 99,959 boxes, as against 124,125 boxes a year ago.
