TOMATO PULPING

INSTALLATION OF PLANT PROPOSED. For the purpose of providing an outlet for surplus tomatoes the establishment of a pulping plant in the Hutt Valley is being given serious consideration. It is anticipated that the plant will be operating in time for the next tomato season. It is estimated that in the first year about 10 tons' of tomatoes will be handled and that out of the installation oi the pulping plant will come the production of tomato juice. Last year something like 300 tons of tomatoes were never picked because of the deplorable state of the market; it was cheaper to leave the crops on the plants than pick them.
