CHINESE OFFICIAL REPORT HEAVY JAPANESE LOSSES, RIFLES AND MACHINE-GUNS CAPTURED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The recapture by the Chinese of Tachienshan, west of Juichang, after fierce all-day fighting, is announced in a cablegram from Hankow received by the Chinese Consul. It states that the Japanese sustained over 4,000 casualties, including the commander of a regiment and five battalion commanders, while the Chinese captured eight hundred rifles and several tons of machine-guns. The Japanese have been reinforced and severe fighting is still proceeding west of Juichang. JAPANESE REPORT. SEVERAL SUCCESSES CLAIMED. (Recd This Day, 10.45 a.m.) TOKIO, September 4. Chinese casualties at Mahweiling, where, after a day’s conflict, the Japanese cut the Kiukiang-Nanchang Railway, are estimated at 10,000. Japanese airmen, without meeting retalliation, machine-gunned 20,000 fugitives. The Japanese captured Wukiashen, in Central Hupeh, killing 700.
