AN AMERICAN METHOD
DEALING WITH INTOXICATED MOTORISTS. PENALTIES IN WEST VIRGINIA. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Trooper jack, of the West Virginia State Police, U.S.A., writing to a friend in Auckland, refers to the manner in which his State deals with intoxicated motorists. For a first offence, a fine of not less than fifty dollars or a gaol sentence is imposed and the car is impounded for one year. The car is put in storage and the owner charged with the rental of a garage. The offender is also prohibited from driving for one year, at the end of which he must take out heavy personal and property insurances. A second offence means imprisonment, a fine and the revocation of a licence in West Virginia for ever.
