WRESTLER’S DEATH

NECK DISLOCATED IN BOUT ’ (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Seeptember 4. The preliminary bouts of the Auckland provincial amateur wrestling championships were marred on Saturday by an accident to one of the contestants which resulted in his death this morning in hospital. The victim was Herbert Walter Franklin, aged 24, single, a son of Mr and Mrs W. Franklin, of Newmarket. Franklin was engaged in a bout when the accident occurred. In taking a fall to the mat it was evident that Franklin could not have fallen in the usual relaxed manner, but took the full weight of his body on his head. The referee, Mr H. J. Ashby,, immediately broke the pair. Franklin was taken to hospital, his neck having been dislocated. It is the first time in the history of the association That such a misfortune has been experienced.
