TYPOGRAPHICAL ERRORS
A LAWYER’S EXPERIENCE. Foi’ the benefit of those clever outsiders who sneer at occasional misprints in their daily paper, let us cite the experience of a lawyer and publicist, states an exchange. In a letter to a friend he wrote: —Several years ago I prepared a brief of about thirtyfive pages which I desired to have perfect, both in its legal statements and in print. I read the proof myself, and requested the printer to send another proof on the following morning, which he did. Thereupon I stated to the operatives of the typing room that I would give 2/- for every error that they found in the second proof. Within an hour they pointed out 64, and I paid them £6 Bs. Shortly after, I handed the brief to two girls stationed in the ante-rom to announce visitors and run errands, and offered them 5s for every additional error they might find in the proof. They pointed out ten. I paid the money, and made no further effort to eliminate errors from the printing.
