THE OFFICE GIRL
BEAUTY HINTS. LUNCHEONS THAT HELP. If you are an office girl, do avoid applying fresh “make-up” at lunchtime over the old one. If washing conveniences are inadequate, at least cleanse your skin with a tonic or a little complexion milk. Then there is the matter of the midday meal itself, for these luncheons can do much to mar your complexion. Have a variety of fillings for your sandwiches, and see that those fillings are health-giving. Forget meat fillings, and try some nuts, fish and savoury mixtures, pineapple, cheese, and tomato, grated carrot, cucumber, raisins or dates, peanut butter, prunes beetroot, celery, shredded cabbages or egg. All these fillings are health-giving and nourishing. If you eat a slice of raw carrot daily, either as a sandwich-filling or by itself, you will find that many of your complexion troubles will disappear. Eat at least two pieces of fruit and drink a glass of milk. Much of your beauty is based on your mid-day meal, so make sure that it is health-giving and nourishing. At night, if you have to rush off to a dance or other engagement, give your face a special white-of-egg mask immediately you arrive home from the office or shop. Wash the face in warm water, dry the skin thoroughly, and then paint on the face the white of an egg. A pastry brush can be used for this purpose. Lie down on the bed for a few minutes and allow the mask to dry on the skin. If the eyes feel sore and tired, dip two small pads in some witchhazel, squeeze them out, and then lay them on the eyelids. Rest for about ten minutes and then remove the pads and wash the face. Use warm water and a good white soap. If you have a position such as a traveller, or any other type of work where you are out of doors all day, you will find that bathing the face with milk will do much to protect your skin from the elements. Apply the mijk direct to the skin, allow it to dry, and then use as a powder base. Not only will this protect the skin, but it will give it a very flattering effect.
