PERSONAL ITEMS. (“Times-Age” Special.) (“Times-Age” Special.) Mr R. G. Ward, who has been on relieving work at Carterton, will resume his duties when the school reopens on Monday. Mr Ward is, however, expecting to be transferred to another school. Mr Fossette, the newly appointed figadmaster of the Carterton School, will take up his duties on Monday. Mr H. T. Leete, first assistant, has been acting-headmaster since Mr D. A. McPherson was appointed to Huntly. Misses M. Shankland and Betty Fisher, who have been staying with thei* parents in Carterton, have returned to the Training College, Wellington. Miss G. Every has also returned to her duties at the Tokaanu School. Mr Arch Freer, Park Road, who was recently an inmate at the Masterton Hospital, has left on a visit to Paraparaumu. ' Dr. and Mrs W. J. C. Wells, Carterton, will sail on September 22 by the Port Hunter for England. They expect to be away about a year. Dr. Budd, late of Opotiki, will act as locum tenens during the absence of Dr. Wells. Successful Football Club. The Carterton Football Club have achieved considerable success in the competitions conducted by the Wairarapa Rugby Union this season. The club - has won three championships, the club’s senior and junior and fourth grade teams winning in their respective classes. It is also noteworthy that the Carterton Hockey Club, which always puts a good team in the field, has won the Wairarapa championship, and also the Bannin Shield. Funeral of Mr J. G. McDonald. There was a very large attendance of mourners at the funeral of the late Mr J. G. McDonald; which took place yesterday at the Clareville Cemetery. There were representatives present of every district in the Wairarapa, and over 100 cars were in the cortege which had almost reached the cemetery, before the last car left the house. Many beautiful floral tributes were sent by sympathisers, including those from the Wairarapa P. and A. Society (Carterton), the staff of W. Booth and Co., Ltd. (Carterton), Martinborough Collie Club, Pahiatua Collie Club, Kumeroa Collie Club, Masterton Collie Club, and the ladies’ committee of the Masterton Collie Club. A short service was held at the house by the Rev. Ralph Byers, Presbyterian minister, who also read the service at the graveside. The pall-bearers were Messrs Jas. Fisher, president of the Wairarapa P. and A. Society, and P.C.R. of the Foresters’ Lodge, M. McLeod (Martinborough Collie Club), Colin McDonald (secretary), Chas. S. Hay (Langdale), and Murray Wilton, all representing the Masterton Collie Club, and Geo. Butler, a very old employee of the Carrington and Longridge stations. Premier Army Band. The Wellington City Salvation Army Band will give a concert in the King’s Theatre, Carterton, on Saturday next, commencing at 8 o’clock. The Wellington band is considered to be the premier army band of New Zealand, and those who love good music should not fail to hear the fine combination of musicians. On Sunday, September 11, the band will play at the 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. services.
