MEXICO DEFIANT
REJECTION OF AMERICAN OIL NOTE STATEMENT BY PRESIDENT CARDENAS BRITISH RIGHT TO INTERFERE DENIED By Telegraph—Press Association. Copyright. MEXICO CITY, September 1. President Cardenas, addressing Congress today, indicated that Mexico would refuse the demand of Mr Cordell Hull, U.S. Secretary of State for the suspension of the expropriation of American-owned farm lands. Mexico’s answer to Mr Hull’s Note of August 25, demanding immediate action, would be to reiterate previous arguments. President Cardenas added that an inventory of the expropriated property of the foreign petroleum companies was being made, and they would be paid from the profits from the salq of petroleum. He said that Great Britain had no right to intervent on behalf of the Mexican Eagle Oil Company, which was a Mexican corporation. The President renewed his offer to discuss with the United States the value of the lands affected by the expropriation in order to reach an agreement on the amount of indemnification.
