Rain, 20 points. Mr 11. M. Boddington reports that 24 points of rain fell at Solway during the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. today. General Situation: Though there has been compartively little change of pressure over New Zealand the depression centred near Auckland yesterday has moved eastw*ard. The anti-cyclone to the west has -passed the Australian coast and should be over the Dominion to-morrow. Forecast: Strong southerly to south-easterly winds reaching gale force about Cook Strait but moderating to-morrowl. Weather: Cold, squally and changeable with intermittent rain and on the rar iges snow, but conditions improving tomorrow. Seas rough to very rough. SOLWAY RAINFALL. FIGUB ES FOR AUGUST. Mr H. M. Boddington reports that rain was measured on 12 days in August. The maximum fall was 70 points on the 19th, the minimum 3 points on the 6th, 11th, and 20th. The total for the month Was 2.62 inches as against 1.53 (1937), 3.06 (1936), 4.25 (1935), 4.41 (1934), 1.88, (1933). Average for 35 years 3.54 inches. The total, rain measured for the eight months is 31.62 Inches, as compared with 23.10> (1937), 32.73 (1936), 28.95 (1935), 27?!3 (1934), 24.18 (1933). Average for 35 years 27.58 inches.
