The “Daily Telegraph’s” Berlin correspondent understands that a quarter of a million men are digging new Rhine defences, those withdrawing being replaced by a further batch of the same size. The line cannot be fully prepared under three years, and in view of this, work will be concentrated on what are regarded as strategic weak spots.
