SALE AT EKETAHUNA. KEEN DEMAND FOR HOGGETS. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report:—At our weekly sale held yesterday we yarded 1186 sheep, 44 cattle and 42 pigs. There was a good attendance of buyers present from Manawatu, Wairarapa and local districts and as far distant as Stratford. The sheep entry comprised mainly hoggets and included some outstanding lines. Competition from the outset was keen, and sustained throughout, the ewe hoggets especially meeting with animated competition both from local and outside competitors. The bulk of the entry was secured by local and Wairarapa buyers. An outstanding pen of 200 ewe hoggets offered on behalf of Messrs Galvin Bros, realised top price of the sale, selling at 34s 3d under keen competition. On behalf of Mr A. E. Brown a pen of wether hoggets in outstanding condition made 23s Id. Dairy cattle, of which few of quality were available, made late rates. Fat cattle and stores ex-dairy were in good demand, whilst weaner pigs, despite a good entry met with a ready sale and made good figures. • The following prices were realised: — Ewe hoggets: A/c Galvin Bros., 34s 3d, 32s 6d; a/c Allen Campbell, 29s Id; a/c R. J. H. McKay, 31s; a/c John Spring, 31s 6d; a/c other vendors, 265, 245. Woolly wether lambs: A/c A. E. Brown, 23s Id; a/c Galvin Bros., 21s Id; a/c W. Keith, 21s Id; a/c J. Spring, 21s; a/c S. Corlett, 18s 6d; small do., a/c other vendors, 13s Id, 14s 6d, 15s 3d to 16s; aged ewes in lamb, 20s; fat ewes, 20s. Cattle: Fat Jersey cross bullocks, £ll 15s; light fat cows, ex-dairy, £4 2s 6d; store cows, i ex-dairy, £3 ss, £2 17s 6d, £2 16s to £2 7s 6d; dairy cows with calves at foot, £4; yearling heifers,£2 16s; dairy heifers on drop, to £8 15s. Pigs: Best weaners, 25s 6d, 255, 235, 22s to 20s; small weaners, 11s, Bs.
