GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The following is the draw for the first round of the club championships to be played on the Taratahi links tomorrow:— From No. 1 tee: R. Goodwin v. H. Hudson; C. K. Goodin v. J. Steel; B. Booth v. R. Fisher; W. Moroney v. R. Lawrence. Juniors: T. T. Hughes v. Father Heavey; J. Steel Junr. v. F. Knutson; f>J»»Colsen v. J. Lawrence; C. Clarke v. R. Forbes. The remainder of players will take part in the first round of a medal competition to be played over three Saturdays. The draw is as follows:-— From No. 17 tee: Brown v. Whitburn; Hart v. Smart; Roydhouse v. Harrington; Taverner v. George; Smith v. Shankland; Kiddie v. Riggs; Taylor v. Wells. From No. 15 tee: Aplin v. Barr; Krahagen v. Callender; Jackson v. Gustofson; Fitzgerald v. S. Hill; Candy v. Harry; Dwane v. F. Hill; Tankersley v. S. Booth; Hawker v. Lane. Parcel Evening. A very enjoyable parcel evening arranged by the friends of Miss Moira Freer, of Carterton, and formerly of West Taratahi,. was held last night at the Masonic Hall, in honour of her approaching marriage. Dancing was indulged in to excellent music played by Mrs Vincent J. Ashton (piano) assisted by Mr Udy, while Mr Gordon Challis contributed an extra. The Lucky Spot waltz was won by Miss M. Freer and Mr W. Moroney. The duties of M.C. were capably undertaken by Mr Eric Millar. At an ap- ■ propriate interval Mr J. G. Morris ; called on Miss Freer to accept and ' open the many beautiful gift parcels, which she did to the accompaniment of musical honours. Mr John P. Ewan, the bridegroom-elect, responded on Miss Freer’s behalf. Supper was served and the function terminated with the singing of Auld Lang Syne. BOWLING CLUB. ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Carterton .Bowling Club was held in the Club’s pavilion last evening and was presided over by the president (Mr C. C. Callender). There were twentythree members present. The president read his annual report, which with the balance-sheet were adopted. The club’s finances were be in a satisfactory state. ■"*' ’ The reports of the match committee, green committee, social committee and refreshment committee were submitted and adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows: —Patron, Mr Joe Udy (reelected); president, Mr W. C. Robertson; vice-president, Mr J. L. Harris; secretary and treasurer, Mr C. H. Barber (re-elected); auditor, Mr F. L. Barr; official match recorder, Mr C. J. De Lacey (re-elected); bowl examiner, the Rev W. F. Stent; match committee, Messrs H. Simmonds, G. Hughan and R. Thompson; green committee, Messrs Barber and Robertson; I refreshment committee, Messrs G. Hughan and W. Steven; social comi mittee, Messrs Harris, Harrington and Barr; general committee, the Rev W. F. Stent, C. C. Callender, F. L. Barr, G. Riggs, A. C. Tucker, H. T. Leete, H. Simmonds; delegates to Centre, Messrs Robertson, Barber and the Rev W. F. Stent. The action of the outgoing committee in purchasing land adjoining the bowling club’s green for the purpose of another bowling green was endorsed. The retiring president, in a few well chosen words, presented the | trophies won during the past season as follows: —Singles competition, Mr W. M. C. Sorensen; handicap pairs, Messrs F. Harrington and G. Riggs (who also take the Hill and Hughes Cup); Colts’ singles, Mr A. J. Thompson. It was decided that a conference be held by committees of the bowling and tennis clubs to go into the question of the tennis club taking control of the tennis part of the bowling club’s affairs. It was resolved that the incoming management committee • go into the question of obtaining a cabinet for the pavilion in which club trophies could be kept at the conclusion of each season. The following notice of motion is to be submitted to the annual meeting of Ihe Centre: “That in future the preof the Wairarapa Centre be elected at each annual meeting, and not as at present constituted, the same to come into force in 1940.” The resolution appearing on the minute book that the match committee select the personnel of champion rinks was rescinded, and that each rink be by own selection, with a stipulation that three’s and skips be not lead and second. It was decided that the gratuitous services rendered to the club by Messrs Kilmister and Greeks be recorded on the minutes. It was resolved to purchase badges for club members. Designs are to be procured from makers. It was resolved that an honorarium of £5 5s be voted to the secretary and treasurer, Mr Barber, for services rendered to the club. Mr Barber thanked the members and intimated he would hand the same back to the club'to help in the purchase of the section adjoining the green. A vote of thanks to the chair concluded a successful meeting.
