MILK FOR SCHOOLS
DISTRIBUTION IN WAIRARAPA. SUGGESTION TO DAIRY COMPANY. “This is a very serious matter for the company and the directors are not going to take any risk,” remarked the chairman of directors, Mr J. C. Ewington, when referring at today’s meeting of the Masterton Dairy Company to a proposal that the company take over the supply of milk to school children. Mr Ewington said the directors had been asked to consider the matter of supplying milk to schools in the Wairarapa district. Visits had been paid to New Plymouth, Massey College and Dannevirke and the methods in use in those places had been gone into thoroughly. Particular notice has been taken of plant and distribution costs. When the directors had completed their investigations the matter would again be taken up with the Government Department concerned to make final arrangements. He did not think there would be any difficulty about obtaining the supply of milk necessary. The number of children involved totalled 2,912. necessitating the supply of 182 gallons of milk a day. On the motion of Mr A. C. Gawith it was decided to call a special meeting of shareholders and suppliers to discuss the matter after the directors had completed its investigations.
