SPIN BOWLERS ON TOP

WICKETS FALL CHEAPLY WARD AND O’REILLY IN ELEMENT. EASY WIN FOR AUSTRALIA. By Telegraph—Press Association. Copyright. (Recd This Day, 10.10 a.m.) LONDON, September 1. The match between the England Eleven and Australia was resumed today, after the start had been delayed by rain. The wicket was not protected from the rain and greatly assisted the bowlers. The Englishmen were no more comfortable bn today’s soft turning wicket than yesterday. The spin bowlers were naturally in their element and wickets fell cheaply. When O’Reilly dismissed Duckworth, making his 99th first class wicket of the

tour, the England Eleven were all out after 105 minutes play. The match was a financial failure. Only 1,500 saw Brown and Badcock score the 48 runs needed for victory.

Smith (4) and Howorth (8) reopened the England Xi’s second innings from the overnight total, of 32 for one wicket, and by the lunch interval the score was 76 for seven wickets.
