EFFECTS OF THE JAPANESE TYPHOON LARGE NUMBER OF HOUSES COLLAPSE MANY THOUSANDS DAMAGED By Telegraph—Press Association. Copyright. (Recd This Day, 10.35 a.m.) ; TOKIO, September 1. Tens of thousands of workers were, unable to reach the city today as the result of the typhoon. Damage was done to 30,000 houses and the Tokio area was flooded. Three bridges were demolished. The disaster occurred on the anniversary of the 1923 earthquake. The east coast and Yokohama harbour are reported to be littered with wrecked vessels. The death roll has reached 30. Eleven hundred houses collapsed in Tokio, 4174 were damaged, and 86,000 were flooded. In Yokohama, 417 houses collapsed, 3222 were damaged and 4644 flooded.
