FIGHT WITH COBRA
FOX TERRIER SAVES BOY’S LIFE. A fox terrier has lost its life in saving its 13-year-old master from the grip of a large yellow cobra in the veld near Cape Town. The boy and the dog were walking in the veld when they came across a yellow cobra and the boy threw a stone at the snake, wounding it. The snake immediately attacked the boy, who grabbed it behind the head and held on with might and main. The snake then began to twist itself round the boy’s legs and soon had a firm grip, but the terrier, seeing his master difficulties, made a rush at the reptile’s head and managed to wrench the cobra away from the boy’s leg. A terrific struggle then started between the three of them. First the boy seemed to have the upper hand, then the snake, . and during the fight the cobra struck the dog in the shoulder. Finally the boy managed to separate the dog and the snake, and killed the cobra with a blow from a stick. But the terrier died before an antidote could be applied.
A retired butler is writing his reminiscences. We understand that an enthralling chapter is “Doors at Which I Have Paused Discreetly to Cough Behind.”
