NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS. GOOD PLAY IN OPENING ROUNDS. (By Telegraph —Press Association.) HAMILTON, This Day. An excellent standard of play was witnessed when the New Zealand badminton championships opened last evening. In the A grade, the holder, P. Hawksworth, played well up to expectations and won easily. R. Lewis, the Waikato and Auckland champion, was also in fine form, while other prominent players to win were H. H. Fow, M. T. Wilson and G. H. Pearce. In the ladies’ section Misses Kerr and Edmondson and Mrs P. Hawksworth all played well and entered the second round. Misses N. and B. Payton, gave an excellent doubles exhibition, while Mrs Hawksworth and Miss Kerr also won their doubles.
