A Columbia (South Carolina) message states that Senator Ellisond Smith, who was the target of a President Roosevelt “purge,” defeated in the South Carolina primary contest, Governor Olind Johnston, who was endorsed by President Roosevelt. In San Francisco Senator William Gibbs Mc’Adoo, who is supported by the President, is running behind Mr Sheridan Downey, the champion of the “ham and eggs” thirty dollars a week pension scheme for every Californian over fifty years of age.
