STATE THEATRE

“LAW OF THE UNDERWORLD.” The “Law of the Underworld,” will be finally screened tonight at the State Theatre. “DIVORCE OF LADY X.” What happens when a beautiful girl walks into a strange man’s hotel suite, steals his bed, his pyjamas, his book, his breakfast' and, incidentally, his heart, and vanishes without leaving her name, is merrily told in “The Divorce of Lady X,” Alexander Korda’s technicolour comedy, starring Merle Oberon, which opens its season at the State Theatre tomorrow at 7.45 p.m. The film, which is Korda’s first technicolour effort, also marks a double debut for Merle. It is not only the star’s first colour film, but also marks her entrance into the comedy field. Binnie Barnes, Ralph Richardson and Morton Selten are also prominently featured in the cast of the comedy which was based on the play “Counsel’s Opinion,” by Lajos Biros. The screen play was prepared by Robert E. Sherwood in collaboration with the author. STAGE ATTRACTION. A musical combination, unusual in Masterton, will appear on the stage during Saturday’s programme at the State Theatre. This is Miss Jean Mackay’s piano accordeon band, a talented amateur combination making their first bow to a public audience. Two numbers will be played, a waltz medley by the band and a popular solo by Miss Mackay.
