A Composite Tune.
“The Donkey Serenade” sung by Allan Jones in "The Firefly,” the M.G.M production, starring Jeanette MacDonald, which- comes to the Regent on Saturday week, is really a composite of Rabaud’s "Marouf,” Friml’s “Chansonette” and Grofe’s “Grand Canyon Suite.” The main theme is Friml’s “Chansonette” which was sung by Miss MacDonald in one of her earlier musical films, “The Cat and the Fiddle.” Different words were fitted to the tune in “The Donkey Serenade.”
