A play which is now being performed by repertory theatres in England and which has created a deep impression, is to be given by the Auckland Repertory Theatre in about five weeks time. Entitled “The Ascent of F 6” the play has a satirical theme and is a comment on the manner in which patriotism is prostituted by politicians. The stage settings are of a very unusual nature. Divided into three parts, the stage represents in the centre the ascent of the mountain, on the left a radio station with various people talking, and on the right an impression of suburbia. The actual tragic ascent of the peak is only incidental to the unfolding of the drama of international

Under the direction of Mr Stanley James, the chorus and principals are stated to be making excellent progress. It is hoped to make a feature of the orchestral work. Mrs E. R. Greenfield, a gifted violinist, who has had wide experience in concert and orchestral work in Australia and New Zealand, will be leader. The large bell will weigh six tons and will be audible for five miles. A Dictator’s Action. “The Tales of Hoffman” by Offenbach has been banished from the State ; Opera House of Vienna. Thus, says The Etude, may the works of perhaps the most popular light opera composer of all time be denied to the people of a nation by a misguided dictator,
