BURNS AND SCALDS
FIRST AID TREATMENT. Burns and scalds from flames, boiling water, etc, are liable to occur with young children. These can be very dangerous, and a great deal depends on the first-aid treatment employed. The flour and oil and baking-soda commonly used are more harmful than efficacious. Do not use any greasy preparations for first-aid. Picric acid is a good antiseptic to use, but modern treatment with tannic acid is far better and is life-saving in many cases. A 5per cent solution in water should be sprayed on or applied on a thin cloth. Very strong tea is a good substitute; it should be applied cold or luke-warm.
