There are 500,000 species of animals which are known. They' are divided into the following classes: —7000 mammals, 20,000 birds, 5000 reptiles, 2000 amphibians, 13,000 fish, 60,000 molluscs, and 360,000 insects, besides a host of lower invertebrates.
