SUITABILITY OF WELLINGTON HARBOUR FINDINGS OF COMMITTEE QUESTIONED (By Telegraph—-Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The suggestion that the meteorological records relied upon by the special committee which has reported adversely on the suitability of Wellington Harbour as a base for flying-boats apply to Rongotai aerodrome and are not an indication of conditions existing at the area in Evans Bay formerly suggested as a suiitable site, was made by the mayor of Wellington, Mr T. C. A. Hislop, and the chairman of the Wellington Harbour Board, Mr C. M. Turrell, when interviewed yesterday afternoon. A statement. questioning several of the assumptions contained in the committee’s report was issued by the air service committee of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce yesterday at the conclusion of a special meeting. The statement expresses the committee’s conviction that the harbour is suitable. MANAKAU BASE SITE TO BE SURVEYED (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, August 31. An immediate start is to be made with the preliminary survey investigations on the site on the upper reaches of the Manukau Harbour chosen as the location for the proposed Auckland air-port. This decision was made at a conference of interested metropolitan local bodies at the Town Hall.
