RACE WITH PIGEONS

Mr W. R. D. Perkins, M.P. for. Stroud, using motor car and aeroplane, recently raced 40 pigeons from Westminster to his constituency — and lost by a minute. Having seen the birds released in Palace Yard at 1.15 p.m., he was driven to Heston airport, where his own plane was waiting. In this he flew to Jackbarrow Farm, his Gloucestershire home, arriving at 2.44 p.m., and finished the journey by road. He “clocked in” at 3.6 p.m. Under the rules of the race the birds still had another half-hour’s grace, and at approximately 3.35 p.m., one minute before the expiration of this time, a bird belonging to Mr Victor Thomas reached its home.
