GAME DRAWN

AUSTRALIA V. SUSSEX GLORIOUS PLAY BY BARNETT. BADCOCK STRIKES FORM. i By Telegraph—Press Association. Copyright. (Recd This Day, 10.10 a.m.) LONDON, August 30. The match between Australia and Sussex was continued today, and resulted in a draw. Australia’s second innings closed for 300, and when time was called Sussex had lost 2 wickets for 53 in the second innings. Brown (17) and Barnes (24) reopened Australia’s second innings from the overnight total of 47 for one wickec. Brown was caught at the wicket off a ball coming through fast to which he played defensively. Barnes, after a stay of 100 minutes, played a ball on, with Australia still 26 behind. Barnett, promoted nearer the top, hooked and drove gloriously and soon

wiped off the deficiency, while Badcock, after a couple of flashing fours, played cautiously. Barnett scored fifty in 45 minutes. He hit one 6 and five 4’s. Badcock batted well, despite the fact that he is suffering from lumbago, and

helped to raise the total to 200, at which both Badcock and McCabe fell. Waite and White added 33 for the seventh wicket. Hassett, who is handicapped by an injured hand, batted with superb confidence, hitting hard for 65 minutes. His total included eight boundaries. He and McCormick added 36 runs to the score for the ninth wicket. As Australia was in some danger of defeat, Walker pluckily batted with a chipped finger bone, and held his end up while Hassett scored runs, thus ensuring a drawn game. Sussex batted for 50 minutes. McCormick knocking Stainton’s off stump for ten yards was the only incident of note in Sussex’s innings. Australia is now reduced to eight fit men. The twelfth man, FleetwoodSmith, is also suffering from lumbago. O’Reilly and Fingleton, the latter notyet fully recovered from his injury, fielded for Walker and Badcock.
