STATE THEATRE
“LAW OF THE UNDERWORLD.” At the State Theatre tonight the “Law of the Underworld” will be shown starring Chester Morris, Anne Shirley, Eduardo Ciannelli and Walter Abel. The thrilling story deals with gangster activities in a large city, where Morris, a modern Jekyll and Hyde, leads a double life as a society man and as the head of a local crime ring. When his friend, Walter Abel, is appointed a special prosecutor, things begin to happen. And when Morris’ trusted lieutenant, Eduardo Ciannelli, begins plotting with Morris” girl friend, Lee Patrick to depose him as leader, more happenings arise. These complications are added to by the troubles of Anne. Shirley and Richard Bond, a pair of youngsters who, in attempting to regain money that has been stolen from them by Ciannelli, are forced to take part in the gang’s robberies. The Jones Family will be seen in another of their excellent comedies entitled “Love on a Budget.” This is one of the best “screamers” produced by this noted comedy family.
