Dental Clinic for Island.
The Southland Education Board decided to apply for a grant from the Education Department to cover the cost of a dental clinic which it is proposed to erect at Stewart Island. It was also decided, that in view of the isolated position of Stewart Island, the Department be approached with a view to treating the whole of the children at the school. Liquor on Cars. After a visit made by a party of police from Lyttelton to Heathcote Valley on the night of Saturday, August 6, several cases were heard at the Lyttelton Magistrate’s Court. When two young men, first offenders for drunkenness, were charged, SeniorSergeant D. Wilson said that when the police arrived in Heathcote shortly before 10 o’clock at night, they found 33 cars parked near a hall, in which a dance was being held. In 25 of the cars they discovered liquor, including kegs, jars, and bottles of beer, bottles of whisky, cocktail and port wine. The two young men were very drunk, but were sent home in charge of friends.
