INTOXICATION CHARGES
DRIVERS BEFORE COURT [ ONE SENT TO GAOL (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, August 29. Three motorists were charged with intoxication before Mr W. R. McKean, S.M., in the Magistrates’ Court today. “Those who are dependent upon possession of motor-driver’s licences know what will follow if they are convicted,” said Mr McKean, when dealing with one man. “Terms of imprisonment apparently are not acting as a deterrent in such cases, and it seems to me that the only thing to do is to increase the length of the term.” Tom Mitchell, aged. 40, who pleaded guilty to a charge of intoxication in a car which collided with a stationary car outside the Chief Post Office, was sentenced to 10 days’ imprisonment, and his licence was cancelled for 12 months. Albert Ralph Boulton, aged 31, ship’s steward, pleaded guilty to a charge of intoxication in a car in Anzac Avenue and with converting a car to his own use. He was remanded in custody for sentence tomorrow. Charles Henry Drury, aged 41, electrician, was remanded until tomorrow on a charge of intoxication in a car in Rautangi Road and a breach of a prohibition order.
