HOUSEHOLD HINTS
White artificial silk underwear may be safely boiled* in the same way as cotton. Boiling keeps it always fresh and snowy white. If rubber bands are wound firmly around the ends of frock-hangers, frocks will not slip off. To dampen clothes quickly for ironing in a hurry, damp them and wrap very tightly in a clean towel, and put into a warm oven. By the time the iron is heated, the articles will be just right for ironing. Needles of all kinds will keep from rusting if they are put through a piece of flannel that has. been greased with vaseline and rolled up. To remove paint-stains from navy serge, rub the part with a cut onion until stains disappear. Scratches on maple furniture will entirely disappear if the parts are dabbed with flannel dipped in boiling water. Wipe dry, then dip a piece of cottonwool in iodine, carefully smearing the scratches. Leave for a few hours and polish with furniture polish.
