GUN DOG TRIALS
MEETING AT MASTERTON. NOTABLE DOGS WILL COMPETE. So far the entries for the Wairarapa Gun "Dog Club’s meeting, at which the North Island Championships will be decided in conjunction with the Wairarapa Championships, include all the best dogs in their respective classes. Captain Rags was in rare form at the recent Hutt meeting, but he will be fully tested at Masterton on Saturday and Sunday next. The Water Trial at the local trial ground (on Mr H. Nee’s property, Opaki Road) has been stiffened considerably by the inclusion of a rather dense patch of raupo swamp. Members of the Trial Committee under the capable leadership of Mr C. E. Grey (club president) have been hard at work selecting new positions which, while giving an equal chance to every dog, should provide the public with a full view of each performance. The Spaniel Championship should have a special interest as it will be the first Spaniel Championship ever to be held in New Zealand and the diminutive Spaniel will be asked to retrieve across water..
Light refreshments will be obtainable on the ground, also hot water is available for picnic parties who will find the grounds quite attractive for a day’s outing. Entries close on Thursday next, September 1, with the joint secretaries, Messrs G. F. Birkett and W. H. Dale. Late entries will be accepted subject to late fee.
