GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The first round of the golf club championships were played on Saturday afternoon, the weather being none too pleasant. The following are the results: — Men: I, McGregor defeated E. Nitz; H. Paku defeated N. Foreman by default; W. Kummer beat M. Paku and S. Gray beat H. Winter. Ladies: Mrs Nitz beat Miss Vennell; Miss Taylor beat Mrs Foreman on the 19th and Miss M. Taylor beat Mrs I. McGregor. On September 4 the second round will be played when I. McGregor will meet H. Paku and W. Kummer will play S. Gray in the men’s division, and in the ladies’ championship Mrs Nitz will play Miss M. Taylor and Miss Taylor will meet Mrs Schofield or Miss Read. On Saturday afternoon a mixed foursome will be played for the silver buttons and players are requested to arrange own partners. The first round of the second series of the children’s competition for the McGregor Cup was played on Thursday last, the best card being returned by Frank Cotter. The final round will be played on Thursday afternoon next when the cup will be presented to the winner. Play for the handicap cup will be continued next playing day, September 4, .and the following have been drawn to' play:—Men: A. McGregor v M. Paku; Winter v F. McKinstry; J. Bannister v E. Nitz; N. Foreman v N. Kummer; F. Cotter v R. McKinstry; R. Vennell v P. Kummer. Ladies: Mrs Foreman v Mrs A. McGregor; Mrs I. McGregor v Miss Vennell; Miss Buckeridge v Miss Dickason; Miss Bannister v Miss McGregor; Mrs McKinstry v Mrs J. Bannister; Miss Schofield v Mrs Kummer. Owing to the very wet weather and the condition of the links the match with Tyneside scheduled for the weekend had to be postponed. It is expected that a date may be arranged later in the season.
