METHODIST CHURCH

WOMEN’S AUXILIARY. ADDRESS BY REV F. PARKER. The monthly meeting of the Women’s Missionary Auxiliary was held at the residence of Mrs M. J. Jackson, Cole Street, Masterton, on Thursday afternoon, when Mrs H. 'Speight presided over a good attendance. Mrs Speight led the devotional period which was taken from the new Women’s Fellowship leaflet. Miss V. Jackson reported that a quantity of new clothing had been made up during the month and donated to local Maoris. It was announced that at the next meeting there would be the half-year-ly box opening, and that the Rev E. J. Rich would be the speaker. Owing to leaving the district, Mrs A. Thomas has had to relinquish the position of treasurer to the auxiliary, which she has held for the last 14 years. Mrs A. J. Daysh was elected to the position. After a dainty afternoon tea had been served by the hostess, the Rev F. Parker gave a very interesting address on .the workings of the “Home Mission Board.” The Methodist Home Mission Board, he said, consists of 30 members, who are appointed by the Methodist Conference. The Board, which consists of some of the leading citizens of Auckland city, meets four to six times a year. Several departments come under the control of the board. The literature and colporteur department dealt with the sending out of good books, Bibles and hymn books, by a colporteur van, which is also equipped with a talkie picture plant, out to the backblocks districts. There were two trained missionaries who travelled with the van giving lectures, showing religious films, and holding religious services. There was also a book room in Auckland, where all kinds of books, stationery, pictures and magazines may be bought. ■ This department is under the management of a fully experienced stationer. Other departments are the, spiritual advance executive, home mission fund, and general superintendent’s office. The home mission fund covers Maori missions, church extension, and deaconess, work. At the conclusion of his address, Mr Parker was accorded a vote of thanks.
