RETURNED SOLDIERS

MEETING AT CARTERTON. (“Times-Age” Special) A meeting of the Returned Soldiers’ Committee was held in the secretary’s office, Carterton. There were present Messrs A. T. Murray (chairman). C. Chennels, H. Rathbone. F. Taplin, L. J. Harding, G. Rabbits, and D. G. Johnston (secretary). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs C. C. Callender and C. Manley. Mr C. Matson, representing Gladstone returned soldiers, and Messrs W. Ireland and J. Young, representing Te Whiti returned soldiers, were also present. After a discussion it was decided to hold a combined dance in the Te Whiti Hall on Saturday, September 10. Arrangements were made for the function and the services of the Wairarapa Pipe Band are to be secured. It was Unanimously decided that it be a recommendation to the trustees of the loan account that the sum of £ 100 be placed on fixed deposit with the bank for a further six months.
