PACIFIC AIRWAYS
POSSIBILITY OF BRITISH SERVICE BETWEEN SAN FRANCISCO AND AUSTRALIA V SANFRANCISCO, August 25. Mr Edward Cahill, utilities manager of the City of San Francisco, told the Australian Association Press today that there was a distinct possibility that Imperial Airways would establish a service between San Francisco and Australia. Pan-American Airways, he said, had leased the use of airport facilities on Treasury, in the Solomon Group, but Mr Cahill explained that they would use only one hangar, leaving the other available for Imperial Airways. He declined to give further details, and added that the negotiations were not yet completed. Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay, so named in honour of the Golden Gate World's Fair, is being made a permanent air port.
TALKS PROCEEDING MATTER FOR GOVERNMENTS CONCERNED (Recd This Day, 9.35 a.m.) LONDON, August 26. Imperial Airways admit that talks are proceeding with Pan-American Airways in respect to a trans-Pacific service, and add that is largely a matter for the Governments concerned, and that is is impossible to comment meantime. DOUBTS EXPRESSED. (Recd This Day, 10.0 a.m.) NEW YORK, August 26. Imperial Airways, in an interview with the Australian Associated Press expressed a doubt whether the plan would ever be consummated.
