“There is a. surprising tendency among Americans at present to want to move to British countries,” remarked Mr A. F. Castle, of Wellington, a member of the Dominion Settlement Association in an address in Invercargill. He mentioned an enquiry he had received from, an American in business with 50,000 dollars capital who wanted to know what the prospects would be for his family if he settled here. Mi' Castle suggested that encouragement should be also given to men retiring from the British civil service,' naval and military, men, who would, find New Zealand a country very much to their liking, with its sporting facilities which they could not afford elsewhere. Men of this class would bring a certain amouint of capital into the country and it would be well worth while to offer them some inducement by way of a redaction in taxation.
