FROZEN MEAT TRADE
LONDON QUOTATIONS LAMB MARKET VERY FIRM Lamb market: Very firm with prices again advanced; consumption continues good. Mutton market: Wethers and ewes, trade slow and with the exception of lightweights prices tending easier. Beef market: Chilled beef, with lighter supplies, prices have improved substantially. New Zealand porker pigs: Lightweights firmer, but trade slow owing to warm weather. New Zealand baconer pigs: Easier, owing to poor demand. The above report was received yesterday by the Meat Board from its London office, which advises that the following are the ruling prices of wholesale quantities of the descriptions of frozen meat mentioned and are for representative parcels of the goods sold on Thursday. Chilled beef prices are averages of the week. All prices are on the basis of delivered to Smithfield market. Prices for the previous week are shown in parentheses: — New Zealand Sheep.—Crossbred wethers and/or maiden ewes: 481 b and under, 5 l-8d (sd); 491 b to 561 b, 43d (4Jd); 571 b to 641 b, 4 5-8 d (4 5-8 d); 651 b to 721 b, 4Jd (4Jd). Ewes: 481 b and under, 3 5-8 d (3 5-8 d); 491 b to 561 b, 3’d (3Jd); 571 b to 641 b, 3d (3d); 651 b to 721 b, 27-8 d (27-8 d New Zealand Lambs: Canterbury: 361 b and under, 7 7-8 d (7 5-8 d); 371 b to ’42lb, 7 7-8 d (7 5-8 d); 431 b to 501 b, 7 3-8 d (7 3-8 d); second quality, average about 311 b, 7d (6 7-8 d). The lamb market continues firm and mutton unchanged, says a report received by Levin and Co., Ltd., from their London agents: —Compared with last week’s quotations, Down lamb, 281 b to 361 b, id per lb higher, 361 b to 421 b, l-8d per lb higher; crossbred lamb, l-8d per lb higher; second quality lamb, Id per lb higher; wethers, under 481 b, l-8d per lb higher. Others unchanged.
