SPEED THRILLS
EYSTON LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT ATTEMPT. PRAISE FOR HIS CREW. NEW YORK, August 25. In an article copyright to the North American Newspaper Alliance, Captain G. E. T. Eyston says: “It was a tremendous sensation whistling across the salt at 347 miles an hour. I never dreamed there was such acceleration in the “Thunderbolt.” I want to give my faithful crew a deserved word- of praise. The improvements we made last winter have all proved themselves justified.’ ■ “I look forward to my next attempt with even greater anticipation, but it is unlikely I will be able to run again this week. Mounting new tyres will require two or three days. In the meantime I will watch Cobb make his speed attempt.” The Australian Associated Press quotes John Cobb as saying (with reference to the fact that on account of a failure of the timing device the speed attained cannot rank as an official record): “It is devilish tough luck for Eyston and lamentable that a man has to risk has life for nothing.”
