SCOUT NOTES
(By “Rama.”) A message to all Scouts, from the Deputy Chief Scout:— To all members of the movement: Scouting is very much in the public eye this year. I want each Rover, Scout and Cub to do his best to keep up the standard of our scouting, by keenness, regular and punctual attendance at meetings, wearing uniform whenever possible, plenty of camping, good turns at home and outside, and above all the true Scout spirit.— (Signed), Somers, Deputy Chief Scout. All Cubs of the St Matthew’s No. 1 Pack who are not away for the school holidays are asked to remember that the Pack will be meeting on Tuesday, August 30. Six Scouts and Scouters of the St Matthew’s Troop spent the last weekend at the Rover Hut, Kiriwhakapapa Valley. On Sunday the party followed the course of the Kiriwhakapapa stream for several miles, passing over large boulders up to six feet high and climbing up waterfalls some 65 feet high, at the bottom of which were large pools caused by the fall of water. After leaving the hut a height of a thousand feet was covered by the following of the stream, before hitting out in the direction of Mt Te Mara, where the track was picked up and the descent to the hut was made.
