NEW LIBRARY

—s FOUNDATION STONE LAID. IN WELLINGTON. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The laying of the foundation stone of the new Public Library was carried out today by the Mayor (Mr T. C. A. Hislop). An innovation was that the addresses were made in a tea room lounge, where the invited guests, numbering 350, were entertained at morning tea, a welcome change from standing in the open with the possibility of a chill wind. Those invited included representatives of all branches of culture. The building is to take the place of the existing one, which has long been too small for the service required, and will cost in the neighbourhood of £70,000, without furnishings.
