AN UPHILL FIGHT
AUSTRALIAN WOMEN’S GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP. MISS KERNOT BEATS MISS CRAGO. SYDNEY, August 24. Miss Kernot staged a sensational uphill fight to defeat the New South Wales junior champion, Miss Crago, on the nineteenth green in a semi-final of the women’s Australian golf championship, which was played in inclement weather. Miss Kernot was 5 down at the seventh, but fought back to square the match at the sixteenth and won on the nineteenth. In the other semi-final Miss Ebert, with magnificent approaches and putting, beat Mrs Robinson, 5 and 4. Miss Kernot will meet Miss Ebert tomorrow over 36 holes. Mrs Crombie, of New Zealand, with a handicap of 6, finished 1 down to win the 18-hole bogey competition. Another New Zealander, Miss Illston, with a handicap of 10, was runner-up—2 down.
