GUN DOGS
HUTT FIELD AND WATER TRIALS. WAIRARAPA SUCCESSES. Wairarapa competitors were conspicuous amongst those successful at the field and water trials conducted by the Hutt Valley Gun Dog Club at Waiwetu Road. Dogs competed at the trials from Canterbury, Hutt and the Wairarapa. In the field trial puppy class Mr A. Mclvor, Martinborough, secured first place with his Curly-coat-ed Retriever Waiata Boy, 81 points; Mr M. A. Rawlins (Mastertori) was one point behind the winner with his Labrador Cleopatra May. In the novice field trial the Masterton owner was placed second with his Labrador St Clair Caddie, being 2 points behind the winner, .Dr G. F. V. Anson’s Pointer, who was awarded 88 points. Other Wairarapa places in the various events were Mr J. C. Holmes, Matahiwi (third in the novice field trial), and Mr H. Wilton (third in the Setter and Pointer novice field trial). Mr R. V. Mason, of Masterton, was the judge. NORTH ISLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS. TO BE HELD AT MASTERTON. The North Island Gun Dog Championships will be held on Mr H. Nee’s property, Opaki Road, on September 3 and 4. Several South Island dogs will be among the large field, including the field trial champion dog, Captain Wraggs, owned by Mr Crookes of Christchurch, which recently won Dominion honours. He will be opposed in Masterton next week by Mr R. V. Mason’s field trial champion Silky Sue, and a strong contingent of North Island competitors. . In addition the first spaniel championship to be held in the North Island will be decided. The judge of all events will be Mr P. W. Willson, of Lower Hutt.
