FIGHTING PLANES

CONSTRUCTION IN CANADA AGREEMENT WITH BRITAIN ANTICIPATED PROPOSED FRENCH FACTORY NEAR MONTREAL By Telegraph—Press Association. Copyright. MONTREAL, August 23. An agreement between the British air mission and Canadian aircraft manufacturers for the production of R.A.F. planes in the Dominion is reported to be near. Sir Hardman Lever, head of the mission, promises a decision within a few days. Meanwhile, the “New York Herald” states that it is learned from reliable sources that French interests, believed to be sponsored by the French Government, have completed plans for the erection of a large aircraft plant near Montreal. The “Herald” comments that this move follows the recent French-British General Staff conversations. The plant is intended primarily as a reserve source of supply for the French Air Force. The land has already been purchased.
