FREEZING DISPUTE
REPORTED AGREEMENT AT WESTFIELD. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, August 23. Although official confirmation is lacking, it is understood that an agreement was reached on Monday by the disputes committee which conferred on the question affecting dressing-room accommodation and the size of lockers which was the cause of the strike at the Westfield freezing works last week. At first, it is stated, the employers agreed to all the proposals made by’ the men with the exception of one concerning the distance between the lockers, but this also was subsequently conceded. That some hitch occurred later is apparent, according to reports current tonight. It is said that while the men’s delegates reached an agreement with the employers, they later insisted that the agreement should be ratified by the men, an unusual course in such a comparatively minor dispute. As far as can be ascertained no meeting between the delegates and the men occurred today. Meanwhile killing operations continue.
