MINERS’ DEMANDS
PRESENTED IN AUSTRALIA THE PRINCIPAL DETAILS MEETING TO CONSIDER STRIKE (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Copyright. SYDNEY, August 22. The Miners’ Federation has served copies of its log claims on all colliery proprietors in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and Tasmania and on the Governments concerned. A reply is requested within fourteen days. In the meantime, aggregate meetings of all coal miners will be held to endorse the strike action decided upon at the recent National Convention.’
The main point of the log are: A five-day week of six hours without reduction in pay; a guaranteed minimum wage for all contract workers; a special Coalmining Compensations Act; retirement of miners aged sixty on a pension of 40s a week; fourteen days’ paid holiday annually; and weekly, instead of fortnight, pay checks.
